Rate my piping

Get your piping rated out of 100

Pipe one of our free practice sheets, take a photo from above and Icing Coach rates it in seconds. You get a score out of 100, a heat map of where the icing went wrong and your top three spots to fix, each with a replay of the right move.

What the score means

Your score out of 100 is built from up to four parts. Each one is also shown on its own, so you know what to work on.

Why you need a printed sheet

A score is only fair if it knows exactly what you were trying to pipe. Each practice sheet has four black squares in its corners. Icing Coach finds them in your photo and uses them to flatten the picture, so the sheet lines up with its template even if you shot it at a slight angle.

Then it compares your icing with the template shape by shape: where the icing landed, what it missed and how even it is. That is why it can point to the exact stroke to fix. A photo of a cake has no template, so it can't be measured the same way.

Print at 100% scale and check the 10 cm bar at the bottom, so the sheet matches the size the score expects. There are 12 sheets, from lines and dots to ruffle borders.

Questions

Can I get a score from a photo of a cake?

Not yet. The score compares your icing with a known template, so it needs one of our printed practice sheets with its four black corner squares in the photo. A cake has no template to measure against.

Is it free?

The practice sheets are free to print, and you can try scoring your piping right in your browser.

Do my photos get uploaded?

No. Scoring runs in your browser, and your photos and score history stay on your device. To show how your score compares, the app only sends the drill name and the score, never the photo.

What makes a good photo?

Shoot from straight above in even light, with all four corner squares in view and no shadow of your phone across the sheet. Avoid strong glare on shiny icing.

What is a good score?

Use it to compare your own attempts on the same sheet. Pipe a sheet, fix the spot the score points to, pipe it again and see if the number goes up.

Does it work with royal icing or buttercream?

Yes. It looks for icing against white paper and pale grey templates, so any colour with clear contrast against white works. Very pale icing is harder to see.
