Petal tip 104
Tip 104 is a petal tip for ruffles, swags and rose petals. One of our free sheets uses it.
Quick answer
Use tip 104 for ruffles, swags and rose petals. Our free sheets use it for 4 strokes on the ruffle border sheet: ruffle (10 mm), with the bag held at 45°.
Tip 104 is a petal tip for ruffles, swags and rose petals. One end of its opening is wider than the other, so which way you hold it matters: our ruffle sheet asks you to keep the wide end down against the surface.
On the ruffle border sheet, the only sheet marked confident, you wiggle the tip as you squeeze and move forward steadily. The rows go from a straight ruffle to a rolling wave, swags that hang between two points and arches that rise and fall like scallops.
The rhythm and bag angle our sheets use for each shape, in the order you squeeze.
Keep the wide end of the tip down, wiggle it as you squeeze, and move forward steadily. Hold the bag at 45 degrees.
Each template on our sheets is drawn as wide as the icing should be. For tip 104, that is about:
| Technique | Bead or unit size on our sheets |
|---|---|
| ruffle | about 10 mm |
Your bead can come out a little bigger or smaller depending on your icing and how hard you squeeze. The score checks that it stays even and on the template.
You need tip 104 on 2 of the 30 days in the 30-day piping challenge:
