About tip 5

Tip 5 is a plain round tip for a bolder bead than tip 3: bigger dots, pearl borders, bead edges and thick writing. None of our sheets is drawn for it yet, so this page points you to the tip 3 sheets, which train the same moves: a steady squeeze along a line, and squeeze, stop and lift for a dot.

You can pipe those sheets with tip 5. Expect a wider bead than the grey template line, and remember that the score counts icing that spills past the edge of a shape as stray. Compare your tip 5 scores with each other rather than with a tip 3 score on the same sheet.

What tip 5 pipes

  • Bolder dots
  • Pearl borders
  • Bead edges
  • Thick writing

Mistakes to watch with tip 5

  • Wobbly line: Lift the tip about 1 cm and let the icing fall onto the line while you move a little slower.
  • Peaks on dots: Stop squeezing before you lift, then flick the tip sideways to break the icing off cleanly.
  • Gaps and breaks: Keep the same gentle squeeze all the way and only stop squeezing at the very end.
  • Thin then thick: Keep the same squeeze and the same speed from start to finish, following the pacer.
